Mobile
phone use while driving - fine and points increase.
A reliable source has told us that as from the
1st January 2012 the
fine for using a mobile phone while driving in France has increased
from
35€ to 135€ and points lost
from 1 to 3.
On
Saturday 26th November 2011 we held our our breath because
too many people turning up would mean not enough space
for dancing and not enough turning up would tell us
there was little interest to take this idea forward.
For this kind of evening around 20 people would be perfect
- and that's how many came along! We intend to start
regular dance evenings in February 2012. Short video & photos HERE

Bob's
super soup competition 16th Nov 2011
With
11 entries and more than 30 voters competition was fierce.
Points awarded to each was very close but Margaret emerged
as the overall winner with her cream of tomato, possibly
due to husband Peter's 'secret' ingredient. Thank you
to all who took part.
As
this competition was so well supported we've decided
to stage a 'curry' competition in February 2012

Pool tournament
At
our September 2011 social evening in Cavron St Martin
we held a pool tournament. Eight members took part
in a knockout competition. To calls of "It's
a fiddle" Debbie and Alex Sutton, our club president
and treasurer, played in the final. Both played well
but there can only be one winner and so Alex became
our club pool champion for 2011. 22/09/2011
When
some people were queueing for drinks at our 60s/70s
theme night we realised that our bar just couldn't
cope. After some thought we decided to construct a
bar big enough for two people to work more efficiently.
Thanks to the sterling efforts of our Bob this has
now been completed. We are gradually getting all the
jobs done to make our social room as comfortable as
possible. Our thanks to everyone for bearing with
us.
7VSG give 1000€ at 60s/70s theme night to AVOTRA
for orphans holiday.
Since
last October members and friends of The Seven Valleys
Social group have been supporting fundraising initiatives
and giving generously so that AVOTRA orphans in Madagascar
could enjoy a much needed holiday this year.
As
our club is growing faster than we had at first anticipated
we are delighted that Bob Tinkler has agreed to join
The Seven Valleys Social Group committee. Bob and his
wife Trish have already done much to help establish
our club and we welcome them on board with appreciation
for their ongoing dedication and support. 7VSG page

May 2011
At
our May social evening in Cavron St Martin we held our
first club darts championship.
After
the gruelling quarter and semi finals father and son Andy
and Mathew Rice played each other in the final. Mathew
(left) beat his father 2-1 to become the first ever 7VSG
darts champion.
The
event also raised money for our Madagascan orphans holiday
fund.

Quiznight
16th March 2011
After
a gruelling 60 questions team 'Paddies' emerged as
outright winner. Left to right Graham, Sheila, Delia
& Tony. Thanks to Debbie for setting the questions
and for leaving everyone enlightened as to what happened
in the British Isles and English colonies, including
America, between September 2nd and September 14th
(not inclusive) 1752. A great time was had by all
and the quiz provided a welcome boost to our ongoing
fundraising for Madagascan orphans. 24/03/11
2011 - Sandra, Alex and Debbie
would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members,
supporters and readers of this web site a very Happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the
7VSG AGM on Wednesday
19th January. We aim to keep the AGM as brief as possible so
that we can all enjoy the remainder of the evening with a few
extra nibbles and good company.
At
the AGM we will release details of our new premises which should
be ready for club use in the spring. The venue will be for the
use of our group, our sub groups and individual members. We
will be inviting members and supporters to help with the alterations
which will include: building a stage, a bar area and a dance
floor; installing a dedicated sound and lighting/projection
effects system; stage lighting and studio mixing facilities.
So if you are handy with a hammer, screwdriver or paintbrush,
and are willing to help, please let us know.
We
continue to be astounded by the generosity of our members and
supporters. Over the Christmas and New Year period four separate
unsolicited donations totalling 105€ were given to us for
our fundraising drive to enable Madagascan orphans to take a
much needed holiday later this year. Our total now stands at
380€. Our target is 1000€ by mid summer. Our sincere
thanks go to those who donated and to all those who have supported
our fundraising efforts.
Best
regards - Debbie 10/01/11
