How
to watch French TV on your computer with Orange adsl
As
an English language speaker living in France you may prefer to
watch UK TV via satellite. Like me, you may not even have the
facility to receive French TV channels. However, being able to
watch a French TV programme and listen to the French language
is a great language learning tool.
It's
amazing how many people who have an Orange adsl (broadband) account
are not aware that they can watch French TV on their computer
via the Orange website. If you'd like to give it a try here's
how to do it:
First
of all a checklist of system requirements.
1/
You must have an Orange France adsl internet account.
2/
If your operating system is below you should be able to access
Orange internet TV.
Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Vista
Mac OS 10.4
Mac OS 10.5
3/
If you use Firefox as your browser you should have VLC player intalled
on your system, if you don't then you can download
it here for free. Important Update
... Ensure that 'Install Mozilla plugin' is checked during VLC player
installation.
4/
If you use Internet Explorer as your browser you should have Windows
media player 11 (or higher) installed on your system, if you don't
you can download
it here for free.
OK
... so you checked your operating system and it is compatible. You
have VLC player or Windows media player installed. You logged into
your account on the Orange website at http://www.orange.fr
with your primary Orange/Wanadoo email address and password and
you ticked the box to remember you next time you visit the Orange
website. Great ... all you need to do now is go to the Orange Video
Party page - click
here and enjoy several French TV channels (takes a
few seconds to load). This works for me in Firefox and Internet
Explorer.
If
you have any difficulty with the above please email via the contact
page and I will
do my best to help.
Update
August 2011 ... On accessing the Video Party page
you may be asked to download a plugin in order to watch the TV channels.
This is only 4.5mb and installs automatically.
Update
February 2011 ... With newer versions of Mozilla
Firefox and Flash Player I have found that the full screen option
doesn't always work - Internet Explorer 6+ works fine though.
