ALEXANDER
SUTTON was born on November 4th, 1923, in Liverpool and
went to Leamington Road School, leaving aged 14.
He
has been awarded various medals including the 1939-1945 Star, North
Africa Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star.
Mr
Sutton joined the Air Cadet Force in 1939 and later became a member
of the Home Guard.
At
the age of 17, in May 1941, he enlisted with the Royal Welch Fusiliers
and trained as a paratrooper the next year.
His
first posting was North Africa and then Italy in September 1943.
In
August 1944 he landed at Le Muy as part of "Op Dragoon"
and the liberation of Southern France.
In
October 1944 he landed in Greece and on went on to Athens, returning
to Italy until the end of the war.
He
was then posted to Palestine until December 1946 when he left the
Armed Forces with the rank of Colour Sergeant.
